I had the opportunity to attend two networking events recently and I managed to pick up some great productivity tips that I can share with you here.
The first event was the Image Networking Breakfast at the Marker Hotel on Friday morning with the theme of work/life balance. Editor Melanie Morris was joined on stage by former CNN Correspondent and Anchor, Gina London, Managing Director of Irish Distillers, Louise Ryan and The Chairman of The Communications Clinic, Terry Prone. First up to take to the stage was Gina London. Gina spoke about her career journey, urging us to push aside doubt and fear, yet reminding us that it’s always ok to ask for help. My big productivity take away was “razor focus intention” when working on tasks. Next up to take to the podium was Louise Ryan. Louise spoke about the importance of women helping women through continued support and flexibility, my productivity take away was “To succeed no work was beneath me”. I’m afraid there really is no substitute for hard graft! The final speaker of the morning was Terry Prone. Terry flipped the idea of work/life balance on its head, challenging us to see what we can do to help those around us, instead of focusing only on ourselves. One quote of hers that struck me was “from strength to strength.. from failure to failure”. Lovely to see that even very successful people admit to making mistakes.
I tweeted throughout the event, if you are on twitter my handle is @trainmyadmin
Saturday morning was spent in the company of stylists Sonya Lennon and Courtney Smith at a Galaxy sponsored event. (yes there was lots of chocolate!) although it was primarily fashion business related I did pick up some tips on being self-employed and my biggest take away was from Courtney Smith who said “You’re never too experienced to learn and evolve”. Although she is very successful she still “test shoots” (works for free basically) in order to try out new ideas. Some inspiration there I think.
