If you think corporate head shots are only for the Managing Directors and Executives of the world, then read on. I think if you are an administrator at any level, a PA or EA, you should seriously consider making this investment in yourself. Just because you’re not the owner or face of the company doesn’t mean you won’t require photos at some stage. Here are five good reasons to have some ready:
I have seen many job adverts specifically requesting passport size photo be submitting with applications. If you are not prepared, this can lead to some panic and rushing off to the nearest chemist to get passport photos taken. If you want to be properly prepared for your job search, having this photo ready is an item to tick off your list when your busy dealing with what can be a very time-consuming process. I personally don’t recommend adding a photo unless it is requested.
Does your company or department publish an annual report or yearly strategy document? Chances are you have at least a group shot of your department, at most, photos of each team member and a short bio. These annual reports spend years in reception areas and company libraries not to mention how long they live online, consider how long your photo will be viewed for. It also needs to be high quality and clear for printing.
If you are ever in a position where you will be speaking at a conference or event as a speaker or a panelist, you will definitely need a photo. This sounds obvious but it’s your first time, you might be concentrating so much on your content and presentation, you could overlook this until it is requested.
Work watts app/communication apps
If you have a work phone and need a profile pic, yes you guessed it, it needs to be professional. No Instagram filters or drinks in hand!
Shows you take yourself seriously
Really, it boils down to this. If you take yourself and your career seriously enough to invest the money and effort into getting professional photos taken, it says a lot for you. The average cost from my research is around the 125/150 euro mark, allow extra if you want to get makeup/hair professionally done first. Aim to leave with about 5 different head shots that you can use for different scenarios above. Let me know what you think in the comments and if you have or would consider getting professional photos taken.
